Humates will save water. So the Earth!

In May 2023, specialists of Chebarkulskaya Ptitsa LLC visited the treatment facilities of the city of Sukhoi Log in the Sverdlovsk Region and shared their experience in using “Bioresource” potassium humate to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment.

Humates will save water. So the Earth!

Research is being actively conducted in “Chebarkulskaya Ptitsa”, and experiments are being laid in various areas of solving environmental issues, such as cleaning domestic wastewater, neutralizing pollutants, and eliminating oil pollution.

The same amount of water flows into the external environment as people consumed in everyday life, but with degraded properties.
The ability of water to dissolve and wash out much of what it comes into contact with makes it impossible for water to exist in its pure form in natural conditions.

The problem of improving the quality of domestic wastewater treatment every year is becoming more acute and is closely related to the pollution of groundwater and surface water, the deterioration of the quality of life of the population.

Humates will save water. So the Earth!

If the issues of industrial wastewater treatment are under close attention, the treatment facilities of small towns and villages, where domestic wastewater is dominant, “do not reach the hands” at the same time.

Household and domestic wastewater is formed as a result of daily human activity - household and physiological.
Household sewage is water that is drained into the sewer after a person has washed, brushed his teeth, taken a shower, and used the toilet.
Every day we cook, wash food, used dishes, wash clothes, and clean the house.

We also include the work results of catering establishments, children's institutions, hospitals and sanatoriums, and all other places where there is a crowd of people - from stations to shops, from baths to gyms.

After consumption, the water enters the sewer. It is polluted with household waste and natural human excretions.

Pollution in wastewater is presented in the form of solutions of suspended particles and sticky non-crystallizing substances (colloids). The composition contains minerals (40%). These are salts (nitrites, sulfites, chlorides, phosphates, etc.), particles of dust and soil.

Organic impurities are formed after animals and people. Food residues enter domestic wastewater. Organic waste is fat-containing, carbohydrate, protein compounds, acids, fiber, etc.

Domestic wastewater is classified as hazard class 4. They pose a threat to the public and must be disposed of after use. Domestic wastewater contains 45-58% organic substances: they determine the main physical and chemical-biological characteristics of domestic sewage:
  • cloudy, opaque, grayish-white in color with a characteristic odor of feces
  • the presence of mineral and organic residues
  • partially colloidal and solution state is used
  • a large proportion of pathogenic microbes, bacteria, viruses. Also found fungi, rot, mold, yeast, helminths
  • acidity above neutral - pH 7.2-7.8.
Fungus, bacteria, and helminths do the most harm. From inorganic harmful substances, salts appear, which are part of cleaning and detergents for household chemicals.

A special group includes bacterial contamination.
Pathogenic viruses, microorganisms, bacteria live in wastewater. They have adapted to exist inside the humans, birds and animals. Getting into the external environment, some of them die. The rest retain their pathogenic properties and continue to develop actively.

These are bacteria of tuberculosis, tularemia, brucella, cholera vibrios and other pathogens.

The indicator of pollution level is the maximum permissible concentration of E. coli Escherichia coli.
Its quantitative content determines the quality of water and the possibility of its use in domestic needs.

Treatment facilities in small settlements – where people also take shower, wash dishes - as a rule, were built in the second half of the 20th century.
They are largely outdated, and some simply do not function anymore.

Lack of budgeting from municipalities exacerbates an already dangerous situation.

At the same time, the entry of untreated or insufficiently treated wastewater into the environment has an extremely negative impact on the environmental situation and, ultimately, on the health of it’s residents.

Specialists of LLC "Chebarkulskaya Ptitsa" already have a successful experience of using of potassium humate "Bioresource" to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment.

The wastewater treatment technology is based on the ability of humic acids to bind pollutants (heavy metals, etc.), convert them into a water-insoluble state and remove them as a precipitate.

Besides, humic acids activate the development of beneficial microorganisms and suppress the action of pathogens at the last stage of the biological wastewater treatment process.
When 0.01% of humates are added to wastewater, more intensive coagulation of impurities occurs, and the throughput of treatment facilities increases by 10-15%.

Humic acids interact with heavy metals, and water-insoluble metal humates formed and already present in humic fertilizers neutralize oil products by adsorbing them on the high-molecular structure of humic acids.

Providing effective purification from pollutants, humic preparations do not adversely affect the flora and fauna of ponds.

Possible points of introduction of humate and the scheme of the experiment were determined as a results of the trip to Sukhoi Log.

The experience of using "Bioresource" potassium humate should make it possible to intensify the process of wastewater treatment in small towns, solve many production problems, and significantly reduce the intensity of an unpleasant odor. And, ultimately, improve the quality of residents!
