Spring is coming. Make way for spring!

Spring is coming. Make way for spring!

In March, everything is getting ready for renewal: people, nature, plants.
The weather in March varies greatly depending on the region: in some places, the buds have already swollen and flowers are blooming, while there is still snow in others.

When planning work in the garden, which is just emerging from its winter sleep, you should take into account local weather conditions.

We would like to share a universal list of things that you can start doing right now, if, of course, the weather permits:
• retain snow on the beds: a small layer of snow of 5 cm already makes possible frosts less dangerous. Strawberries, for example, freeze at a temperature of -15 degrees, if they are left without a snow "blanket".
Also, soft melting of snow is soft moistening of the soil.

• inspection and pruning of trees: at +2-3 degrees it is already possible to carry out sanitary pruning: remove dry, crossing ones. Trees should not be densely packed, as this creates favorable conditions for the reproduction of pests and the spread of diseases. Regular pruning helps to improve ventilation and lighting.

• whitewashing of trunks: when the temperature is stable above zero, tree trunks should be whitewashed to protect them from sunburn and pests. First, you need to clear the trunk of bark, as pests can still overwinter in the cracks. Whitewashing should be done in dry, cloudy weather.

• garden pest control: after the soil dries out, closer to the middle of the month, it is necessary to clear the area of branches, leaves, and debris. Particular attention should be paid to tree trunk circles and clear them of plant debris, last year’s fruits damaged by pests. For example, the codling moth winters in such locations.
If night frosts have stopped, on the next windless day, the trees and the area as a whole should be treated with insecticides to prevent diseases caused by pathogens and pests.

• planting seedlings and picking: sowing vegetable seedlings should begin with early varieties. Seeds of any vegetable and fruit crops respond well to soaking in a solution of potassium humate "Bioresource": germination energy and viability increase. For soaking, use a solution: 15 ml of humate per 1 liter of water. The seeds are kept in the solution for 2-3 hours. After the emergence of seedlings, picking should be carried out, transplanting the plants into separate containers.

• preparation of beds and planting in open ground: before planting seedlings, it is worth fertilizing and loosening the beds. When transplanting into the ground, the soil can also be prepared by preparing a solution of potassium permanganate in humate: this has an antiseptic effect and activates the activity of beneficial microbiota. At the end of March, you can already plant early vegetables: radishes, carrots, peas, and some types of flowers.

In dry weather, you can do some dacha aesthetics: update the paths, replace the boards in the fences, patch up some holes, paint some.
It will also be useful to check how the inventory has survived the winter: sort out the tools, air out the utility room.
