Autumn greens

Autumn is ideal season for discovering new plants. But only those that can grow in short daylight hours. And to successfully grow them, you need to choose them correctly.

Autumn greens

Salads and other greens are just what you need: they grow quickly, are not capricious, and tolerate frosts down to -4…-5 without any problems.
They can be sown all summer. But autumn is their favorite time… And for us, it is an opportunity to extend the season and have time to get additional vitamins.

Autumn greens

The record holder for growth speed among salads is watercress.
It takes 12-17 days from planting to harvesting the first leaves.
Autumn watercress is especially rich in taste and splendor.
It loves coolness and low temperatures. In summer, it quickly produces shoots, and therefore is not so good.

Autumn greens

Pak-choi is a Chinese leaf cabbage. September is the best time to get acquainted with it.
It loves autumn, because in the bright sun it quickly “goes into the arrow” and the leaves are burned.
The cabbage will delight you with leaves with a very pleasant taste already a month after sowing.
However, you can enjoy small, especially juicy leaves earlier, without waiting for the plant to fully ripen (a full head of cabbage).

Autumn greens

Arugula feels ideal at +14….+18, and is not afraid of frost.
Arugula does not like the summer sun. But in the fall, you can choose the sunniest place for it, since the taste deteriorates with a long stay in the shade.
But it’s spicy mustard-nutty taste is unique!
Early varieties of arugula will ripen in 25 days. But "baby arugula", or "baby leaves" can be cut much earlier.

It is worth noting that arugula is like a sponge absorbing everything from the soil. Be careful with fertilizing the soil.

Autumn greens

Spinach is a storehouse of vitamins - the ideal greens for September.
A lover of cool +15…+18, spinach is also an early-ripening crop: early varieties will ripen in about a month after germination. But by choosing younger leaves in the rosette, you can start enjoying juicy vitamin salads with spinach much earlier.

Autumn greens

Dill sprouts already at +3. Therefore, it is worth sowing it when there is a stable cold snap of 0 to +2 during the day and from 2 to -3 at night.
Dill seeds are difficult to germinate. And since you want to get greens in the current season, soaking will help speed up the emergence of shoots.

Autumn greens

The seeds respond well to soaking in a solution of potassium humate "Bioresurs": the germination energy and germination rate increase. For soaking, use a solution of 15 ml of humate per 1 liter of water. We keep the seeds for 2-3 hours, until the first swelling noticeable to the eye.

Common rules for any types of autumn greens are:

- choose a place with good lighting, without slopes and lowlands - the area will warm up faster during the short daylight hours and melt water will not flood it

- it is recommended to increase the seeding rate by 25-30%, since many may not germinate

- prepare the soil in the intended place in August, while it is loose and warm; dig, add fertilizer and level.
